Day 1: Johannesburg to Umkumbe Safari Lodge – Greater Kruger Park
At the start of our 3-day Kruger and Sabi Sand Safari you will be collected from the International Airport in Johannesburg, or your pre-tour hotel nearby.
** Pre tour accommodation in Johannesburg is available - on request
We set off for the famous Greater Kruger Park in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, leaving the bustling city of Johannesburg behind.
Driving northeast we make our way towards Umkumbe Safari Lodge, located in a tranquil bush setting at the Shaw’s Gate entrance to the world-renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
After checking in at Umkumbe Safari Lodge there is time to freshen up, before we embark on our first thrilling sunset game drive in Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The Private Sabi Sand Reserve is best known for its superb leopard sighting opportunities and close wildlife encounters.
All game drives on this South African safari are conducted in open 4×4 safari vehicles.
Returning from the exhilarating sunset to evening game drive after dark, a welcoming campfire awaits you in the cozy outdoor boma area.
Enjoy pre-dinner drinks around the glowing campfire, before tucking into a well-prepared dinner either in the boma under the stars or in the thatched dining area of the lantern-lit safari camp. Relax around the campfire at the end of your first adventure-filled day on safari in the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve and retire to the comfort of your African-style tented room for a well-deserved rest.
Dinner Included
Waking up early on day two of this wildlife safari you are greeted by the golden hues of morning-time in this unspoilt African wilderness.
We kick the day off with a refreshing morning coffee or tea, served in the main lodge area among indigenous trees. Then we venture into the untamed bush on a morning game drive in Kruger National Park, South Africa’s top safari destination. Today our game viewing drives take us in search of the Big Five of Africa and the abundance of other wild animals in Kruger.
Our rewarding Kruger game drive is followed by a scrumptious mid-morning breakfast served back at Umkumbe Safari Lodge.
After breakfast, there is some free time to relax at camp. Take a dip in the swimming pool to cool off during the heat of the day, nap in your air-conditioned tent or enjoy a leisurely walk around the leafy camp grounds. Alternatively you can unwind in the lounge area or on the sun deck at camp, taking in the peaceful bush surroundings. If you prefer to be more active then enjoy some of the optional activities on offer at the safari camp.
A tasty light-lunch is served between 12:30 and 14:00 in the lodge’s dining lapa. At about 3:00pm we venture back into the wilderness on an exciting afternoon game drive in Kruger Park.
Our open vehicle game drives are a great way to get in touch with nature and gain first-hand experience of the African bush, as well as learning more about Greater Kruger’s wild and wonderful fauna and flora.
We explore the best routes for wildlife sightings and photographic opportunities on our 4×4 game drives in Kruger and welcome questions along the way. Our guides are happy to share their knowledge and experiences with you, providing you with as much insight into this beautiful wilderness area and its wildlife as possible.
We return to camp for dinner and drinks around the campfire, spending the rest of the evening sharing our tales of the bush and relaxing under the African night sky.
