Riverdene Family Lodge situated in the Shamwari Private Game Reserve is surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty and overlooks the widespread bushveld of the Eastern Cape. This family friendly lodge located in a malaria free Big 5 game reserve has a welcoming ease and warmth making it the perfect place where families are always at home and where guests become friends.
The 9 luxury inter-leading rooms can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults, sharing with 1 child, subject to availability. Each room comes with air conditioning, a coffee machine, a microwave, a TV with select satellite channels, international dial phone, en-suite bathroom with shower & bath, an electronic safe and a private patio.
Guided by our trained rangers, you can experience wildlife interactions unlike any other during our morning and afternoon game drives plus experience fauna and flora indigenous to the Eastern Cape Region on a professionally guided bush walk. The malaria-free area of the Eastern Cape is home to a host of beautiful birds, from tiny feathered friends to majestic birds of prey. In addition to spectacular game drives, Shamwari Private Game Reserve also offers professionally guided bush walks. While kids under the age of 4 years old are not permitted on game drives, there are a host of activities for them to enjoy. We offer a children’s coordinator at Riverdene, and for an additional fee, we have a childminding service available, leaving your kids in safe hands.
Children of all ages can be accommodated at the lodge. Upon arrival at Riverdene Family Lodge, parents can register their kids for the Kids on Safari Adventure Centre. Kids will have access to both indoor and outdoor activities throughout their stay. Child minding is available at an additional cost for children younger than 4 years as they are too young to join game drives. Children staying at Shamwari Private Game Reserve have the chance to go wild at Riverdene’s Adventure Centre. In addition, there are swimming pools and many more activities to keep the active bodies happy.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO RIVERDENE FAMILY LODGE, SHAMWARI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, EASTERN CAPE Follow the N2 out of Gqeberha heading towards Grahamstown. Continue on the N2 until you reach a sign board for Shamwari Private Game Reserve and turn left towards Paterson on the R342. Travel 7 km up the gravel road and enter at the 2nd gate for the Welcome Lounge.
